Volunteer with the Legacy Fund for the Environment

The Legacy Fund for the Environment is a Canadian charity that helps citizen groups protect green spaces, preserve biodiversity, and uphold their environmental rights. We fund grassroots organizations working to defend nature through environmental law, scientific research, and public advocacy. Our work supports environmental justice, legal reform, and action on climate change in Quebec and Eastern Canada. We are currently seeking skilled volunteers to support citizen-led environmental projects and legal actions across the country.

What kind of Volunteers are Needed?

Lawyers and Legal Advisors
Biodiversity Researchers
Accountants and Financial Specialists

A core part of our mission is to empower citizen groups with access to legal advice, information, and representation. We’re looking for lawyers, law firms, and legal teams who can offer pro bono hours to help with reviewing citizen complaints and providing preliminary legal advice on environmental rights. It is important that we help citizen groups determine whether litigation or other legal action is appropriate so that they can better navigate environmental legislation and legal reform.

Whether you specialize in environmental law, public interest law, or are simply passionate about saving the environment, your legal expertise can help strengthen environmental activism and hold polluters accountable. If you’re part of a legal aid clinic, legal advice foundation, or law resource group, we welcome partnerships and legal referrals.

Many of the cases we support require biodiversity and conservation studies to back legal claims. If you can independently conduct environmental assessments, habitat mapping, or contribute to a biodiversity project, your work can play a key role in shaping environmental policy and supporting community-led advocacy.

We are especially interested in collaborations with researchers working on biological conservation, climate change, and environmental statistics. Join our network of environmental professionals helping to safeguard ecosystems through scientific evidence and strategic support.

Strong financial management is essential for the citizen groups we support. We are looking for volunteer accountants or financial advisors to help groups maintain transparent accounting, produce clear financial reports, and implement strong financial practices.

Your expertise can make grassroots environmental organizations more resilient, accountable, and effective. Support environmental activism by ensuring groups have the tools to manage funds responsibly.
