We are funding research into possible legal action by this citizens’ group to prevent the destruction of a large forest in Pointe-Claire, Québec by a development project proposed by Cadillac Fairview, the development arm of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.

The group is asking for the support of allies for the protection of Fairview Forest, a natural area of ecological importance. They have submitted a brief on this topic and will be present at the December 6 consultation to emphasize the importance of preserving this site. Although Fairview Forest is recognized in the revised version of the PMAD as a natural environment of ecological interest, they want to ensure that this is maintained in the final version.
However, the forest owner, Cadillac Fairview, has submitted a brief proposing to protect only 3.5 hectares, which would result in the destruction of 80% of the forest, endangering several species, including the endangered Brownsnake and bats.
Environmental struggles against powerful corporations are not easy, but public support remains crucial. The group therefore calls for comments on their brief on the revised PMAD website, a simple but potentially impactful gesture for the preservation of the forest.
